This project aims at developing a deep understanding of the complex world of the Florentine artistic crafts, of both small and medium sized historic workshops. Subjects covered are: the acquisition of a deep understanding of traditional and innovative techniques, business aspects, the link between arts and craftsmanship through the centuries. A close analysis of the glossary of arts and techniques is emphasized. Participants will appreciate the artisans' role from a critical perspective and will acquire tools to become aware of the added value brought by artisan made products. Introductory lectures will be followed by interactive meetings with the artisans, maestri, at their bottega. There, instructors will play the role of mediators between artisans and participants by leading them through a path of experiences based on knowledge and critical discussions. The project is particularly dedicated to American universities and colleges, Italian universities, schools offering courses of Italian culture and language, Italian schools, and individuals with specific interest in this unique aspect of Italian culture.
